The Farlington Boarding House provides a relaxed, caring environment, as much like home as possible. There are rules, but these are kept to a minimum, with the emphasis on those that are essential to the girls’ well being.
Farlington’s Boarding House is seen as -

  • A place where girls can grow into independent adults, taking on more responsibility as they grow older
  • A place where they learn to do their best at everything – and not mind if they don’t succeed at the first attempt
  • A place where the girls are accepted for themselves, where they are encouraged to be kind and considerate of one another’s needs
  • A place where they can mix with other students of similar ages irrespective of race, religion, cultural and linguistic background
  • A place full of happy memories

Full or weekly boarding is offered, and there are ‘Taster Evenings’ where girls can try out boarding for one night, as well as occasional boarding, where parents can have their daughter stay in our care while they are away.

Dormitories vary in size (from 4 to 6 girls) but older girls – those in Year 11 and the Sixth Form – usually share study bedrooms with one other girl. There are also some single rooms.

At the weekends there is always an organised programme of activities. Often the boarders go ice skating or visit London and take in a West End play or a ballet at Covent Garden. Recently they have been mountain boarding, rally karting and have had a fascinating tour of the BBC. Sometimes it is a simple activity such as a visit to the cinema or shopping, either locally or at a deluxe mall. Girls also have the opportunity to attend church services on Sunday, if they wish.

Here our boarders speak for themselves:

Boarding is great because you get to meet so many new people and make so many friends. You may miss your parents for the first week, but after that there isn’t time! There are so many activities including dance classes, swimming and rounders. Boarding is great fun so please join us!

Boarding in the Sixth Form is different from boarding further down in the school. For one thing, you are treated more like an adult. Your relationship with staff develops really well. This is invaluable, especially when you are working on coursework or sitting exams, because you know you can easily talk to someone. We are allowed to go out in the evenings, and we can also invite friends over to stay the night.

I am from Hong Kong. I came here to study A levels. The school is small and friendly, and the facilities are really good. There is a big Sports Hall, a netball court, hockey pitch, music/recording room and studio. There is also a new Sixth Form Centre. It is a very nice place for sixth formers to study. There is a big, comfortable library, a kitchen and two common rooms.
Everyone here is very nice and helpful. They always smile at you and help you whenever you have a problem. It feels like Farlington has become my second home. People are welcoming and warm, just as if you had many sisters in one big family.
The food here is brilliant! The cooks are so friendly. Just ask for what you want and they will do what they can for you.
I am sharing a room with an English girl. It does help to improve my English! We chat and make jokes when we are in the room. She teaches me a lot of English customs.
