The main function of the Association is to provide a forum for ex-pupils and staff to keep in contact with each other. The Association aims to run at least one function during the school year at Farlington to bring alumni together in a social context where they can exchange personal news and re-kindle relationships. A Newsletter is produced around Christmas time each year giving news contributed by ex-staff and pupils. Alumni can also join a dedicated website in order to keep up to date with the School and each other. The contact for the Association is Rita Monk through monkr@farlingtonschool.net

At the 2007 Summer Reunion past pupils enjoyed a delicious lunch, tea in the Front Hall and the first Farlington Dog Show, which was held on the same day.

Annual Hockey Match

In September the much hyped game of the year finally arrived – the Old Girls versus the Farlington First Eleven! Thanks to advances in internet technology and a certain social networking site, the Old Girls were actually able to get their message far and wide, and field for the first time, a full side.
In terms of diversity, this was our best team yet.  We had a player from the class of ’93 all the way to our youngest team member at the age of just 14 years, thus proving that age holds no barriers when it comes to playing hockey for the Old Girls team.

In a rain-soaked first half, the Farlington First Eleven took advantage and much of the play was focused on the Old Girls defence who worked tirelessly to keep the ball out of the goal mouth. Still, the Old Girls managed to capitalise on a break and were awarded a short corner which was instantly converted by Gail Burlinson (class of ’96), into a wonder strike that the Farlington First Eleven goalie had no chance of saving.
By the time we reached the second half, the Farlington First Eleven team were on fire playing some champagne hockey against a slower and slightly more decrepit Old Girl side. It was one way traffic against us and the goals kept coming to the point where at the final whistle, the final score was 1 – 4 to the present Farlington girls.

Each year, the Old Girls have a new team playing together for the first time, against a side who have regular training sessions…but there is enough talent and spirit in the squad to bounce back year upon year, and maybe just one day we will be able to snatch victory. All in all, the signs for the future look good so let’s hope better things are yet to come.
The Old Girls would like to congratulate the current Farlington side on a stunning victory, and they can only go from strength to strength this coming season and we wish them all the best of luck.  We are all very proud of our Farlington roots and very much look forward to another showdown next year (and also those delectable match teas, yum!)
