Here’s what Sixth Formers themselves have said:

“Farlington is an incredibly special school…the pupils reflect the amazing things that Farlington can do for the girls…the sixth form are the ones who lead and to whom the youngest members look to for inspiration and encouragement”

“From a shy year seven pupil arriving in a new country and school environment I feel as though I have grown into a mature and confident Sixth Form student”

“The teachers are very dedicated and enthusiastic”

Beyond the Curriculum

Flexibility and adaptability, teamwork and leadership skills are all crucial for success beyond school so we offer a range of further courses and opportunities beyond the AS/A2 subjects studied. These broaden the girls’ horizons and also offer opportunities for them to help others, in school, in the local community and beyond. Farlington Sixth Formers have both a strong sense of personal responsibility and an awareness of, and care for, the world around them.

            • Sixth form girls take on significant leadership roles in School including positions as House Captains, Prefects, Sports Captains, Events Managers, and posts with specific Pastoral, Music, Drama, Charity and Eco responsibilities.
            • An even wider range of sporting opportunities, including self-defence and weight training, is available for Sixth Formers. Some will enjoy trampolining once a week for fun and others will continue to pursue their sporting interests at county and national level.
            • Business opportunities for every girl in the Lower Sixth are explored via Young Enterprise. In recent years we have won many awards at county and regional level. Projects have included running parties for youngsters (selling to that most difficult of clients – parents!) and developing a not-for-profit company, building a conservation area for primary school children to use.
            • Girls have enjoyed international adventures in Iceland, South America and South Africa with both World Challenge and the Wilderness Trust. Every year now, a number of girls raise money to travel to South Africa and help a community project, combining this with the challenge of trekking in the wild.
  • All of our Sixth form girls make a contribution to the local community via Community Service, helping at local primary schools or homes for the elderly.
  • The School is a strong supporter of the Duke of Edinburgh scheme. In the senior school a huge number of girls will have completed their bronze award and in the Sixth form, many go on to complete silver and gold awards.
  • Girls continue to have a host of musical and dramatic opportunities. Public concerts are frequent, showcasing both choral and orchestral talents and recent dramatic productions have ranged from ‘The Insect Play’ through ‘Two’ to ‘Oh! What a Lovely War’.
  • Farlington girls have regular success in debating competitions with other schools enjoy a wide range of cultural, educational and fun trips abroad – to New York, Milan, Paris; the world is their oyster in School as well as beyond.
