Farlington’s Spring Concert on Thursday 14th February was an excellent showcase for the wealth of musical talent within the school. Throughout, the audience was treated to a varied and exciting programme with the whole evening brilliantly led by Anne Stearns and Jane Thomas.
Things began with an excellent and co-ordinated performance of ‘Farandole’ from L’Arlesienne – Suite No 2 by the Concert Orchestra confidently led by Rebecca Arnold. This was followed by the sounds of the String Orchestra and contrasted nicely with the stunning performance of ‘Wings’ by the Glee choir. The Samba band continued to spice things up with a lively ‘Samba Batacuda’ and segued neatly into a smooth and sensitive performance by the Flute Choir. This variety held the audience’s attention and their attention was rapt with performances from Junior Choir, the Guitar Ensemble and the Skatz choir, who always impress with their layered vocal harmonies.
In the second half the musical variety continued with the String Club, the Strood Players recorder group and the Aristoskatz Choir, taking equal place amongst the Rock Band, The Training Orchestra and not one but two show previews! These featured dazzling performances from some of our accomplished musical theatre actors: there was so much music! Highlights included Razzmajazz with their cool and confident performance of ‘Miserlou’, a sprightly Recorder Duet from Felicity and Elizabeth Elliot and the aforementioned show previews which gave us a taste of what is to come at both the Prep and Senior school productions. Farlingtonic closed the concert as usual with a rousing performance of ‘Money, Money Money!’ complete with audience participation.
A huge thank you to Anne, Jane, all the staff and the girls for another sensational evening of music.
