York

The Year 7 trip to York, 23rd-25th November was a great success. We left school on Wednesday morning at 6.30am, in thick fog but this lifted quite quickly and we were well on our way travelling through bright sunshine. We reached York in very good time and then made our way to the York Dungeons. This was a very scary experience but one that scored 10 out of 10.  We then set off for the Racecourse Centre where we were staying and after a delicious supper of roast turkey we sorted out our rooms and settled down to watch Mama Mia!

The next morning after a huge cooked breakfast we visited the York Castle Museum. One of the best bits was the Victorian Street complete with a toy shop and a real sweet shop where we bought real chocolate mice! We had a taste of the swinging sixties and found out about fashion, the Beatles and even watched Muffin the Mule. The museum was really interesting and very much ‘hands on’.

The Wetherby Whaler was our next stop where we had a very filling lunch and by this time we were getting excited about visiting the Christmas markets in the centre of York for a little retail therapy!

The stalls were brightly lit and sold all sorts of Christmassy things so we could buy interesting and unusual presents for our families. In the evening we had all prepared a piece for the Year 7’s got talent show and we had a great time watching each other’s’ sketches, songs, poems and plays; a wonderful evening’s entertainment!

The last morning was spent at the National Railway Museum where the simulator was probably the biggest draw. Six or eight of us at a time went back in time or went off to the moon and some of us went back for more! There were so many trains to look at from ones like the Flying Scotsman to the very modern Japanese bullet train. The museum has so much to look at and there wasn’t enough time to spend there as it was time to head back home, down south back to Farlington. We had had a wonderful three days away, we had got to know each other better and we had had so much fun!
