Victorian Workshops

On Wednesday 10th November, Year 2 headed to the Weald & Downland Museum near Chichester to take part in four Victorian workshops.  They were: food, Victorian household chores, Victorian school days and a Victorian Walk.  The girls received wonderful compliments from all the museum staff on this knowledge, wonderful behaviour and manners.  The workshops were a great opportunity for the girls to consolidate and extend their learning.

Below are some of the girls’ comments:

‘We made some scones and we cooked them over an open fire.  I had sugar on my scones and we were allowed another taste. ‘ Ella Kitt-McLachlan

‘We cooked scones and we all helped to make them.  We got to taste them.  We could taste them with three different toppings: jam, sugar or plain.  We made the scones in a Victorian way.’  Beth Lillywhite

‘We saw the toilet, it was in the garden.  It was in a shed.  It had wood around a hole.  In the hole there was a bucket.  It was the children’s job to empty the bucket every day.’  Millie Lewis

‘We saw a Victorian toilet and we made the bed.  It had lots of layers.  We polished things with Brasso.  We found out about the outside toilet.’  Sophie Mason

‘We were given new Victorian names, mine was Agnes.  I liked the Victorian classroom.  We used slates and chalks and learned the 3R’s.  They were writing, reading and arithmetic.’  Millie White

‘We went on a Victorian walk to school.  We saw little baby piglets and sheep and we went into a Victorian church.  We also saw a shepherd hut.’  Florence McKenzie
