Chess
This year’s Sussex Junior chess Tournament, hosted by Farlington for the sixth year in succession, had the largest number of entries to date. Spanning an age range from 7 to 18 years, we had just over 100 enthusiastic young players descending on the Main Hall on Sunday, 20 November. The tournament ran throughout the day, with the numerous prizes being awarded at 6.00 pm that evening.
Jonathan Tuck, the Sussex Junior Chess Coaching Manager, thanked the School for the wonderful welcome they had received. “The facilities at Farlington are second-to-none and we always enjoy the warm reception we receive when we arrive.”
Four Prep School pupils took part throughout the day: Millie Bubb (Prep 3), Ella Bubb (Prep 5M), Lucy Hourihan (Prep 6S), and Sophie Kitson (Prep 6S).
Huge congratulations go to Ella and Lucy who were both awarded Arbitor’s trophies for their excellent play throughout. Amy Hoare (Year 10) started playing chess when she was in the Prep School and now plays for England!
If anyone in the Junior School is interested in joining the Chess Club at Farlington, they can come along any Wednesday from 12.30 pm in Room P10 and speak to Mr Dunworth, the chess coach.
