Year Four

The Prep 4 curriculum continues to build on the firm foundation the girls received in Prep 3 with an even greater emphasis on the importance of working independently and making decisions for themselves.  The curriculum is stimulating and challenging; the work is differentiated throughout and it is taught primarily by the form teacher.

We continue to hear the girls read on a regular basis, however, the emphasis now moves to ‘reading to learn’ rather than ‘learning to read’.  Girls are taught important skills such as proof-reading and they are encouraged to develop their own legible, individual handwriting style.

The work we cover in mathematics is both fun and challenging.  The lessons give the girls a sound foundation in all areas of numeracy and they develop the girls’ strategies for mental agility.

The girls enjoy working with colour and pattern using the paint programme ‘Dazzle’ as part of their Information Communication Technology (ICT) lessons, and they learn how to give a sequence of instructions in order to move a Probot.

As part of the Prep 4 Personal, Social and Health Education (PHSE), the girls are accountable for the care and welfare of our pets in ‘The Warren’.  They are responsible for the animals’ everyday care, and through a ‘Pet Club’, they learn how to handle the animals sensitively.

We continue to offer a wide range of exciting topic areas in science, history and geography.
