FARLINGTON'S OPEN SHOW

held on 20th June at Royal Leisure, Henfield

The Show was a huge success with over 200 competitors and the schools section had 10-15 separate schools in each of the four sections.

The Schools Show Jumping classes were NSEA Championship qualifiers and also incorporated the West Sussex County Championship awarded to the highest placed West Sussex School in each section.

IThe Novice class was won by Farlington with a team consisting of Helena Taubert, Kitty Scott, Amber Gordon and Mariella Savage. They beat off strong competition from Cranleigh, the Weald, Ardingly and many other local schools. The team not only qualified for the NSEA championships but were also crowned West Sussex County Champions.

In the Intermediate Cranleigh won and came 2nd with Farlington in third place. Because Farlington was the highest placed West Sussex school we again won the County Championship and qualify for the Championships in December.

The long day was finished with Farlington being the only school to have a final score of no penalties in the first round of the Open section, to win the class, and once again be crowned County Champions and qualify for the Championships. The Team consisted of Genevieve Clarke, Katie Calvert, Laura Schroter and Charlotte White.

The Farlington Riding Squad has been one of the most successful school squads, either winning or being placed at events all around the country for more than a decade.

Farlington is situated in prime equestrian country enabling pupils to stable their horses either at home or at local livery yards. Farlington, despite having no specific equestrian facilities is delighted to offer regular training at the local equestrian centres and X Country schoolings at several of the surrounding British Eventing courses. Farlington strongly supports the girls in their riding pursuits which ensures that the squad is very competitive both at school competitions and on an individual basis.

Throughout the year the squad (with girls ranging from 8 to 18 years old) compete for Farlington at all local Team Show Jumping events and further afield at championship events such as the Eventing Championships held in Wiltshire and the NSEA ( National Schools Equestrian Association ) Championships held in Bedfordshire.
