French
Besides being our nearest neighbour, France is at the economic and political centre of the European Union. Apart from English, French is the only other international language spoken across five continents. The fact that as many as 28 countries have French as an official language is sufficient to state its importance across the globe. Furthermore, various international organizations, such as the United Nations, the International Olympic Committee, the International Red Cross Association, UNESCO (and even the Eurovision Song Contest!) consider French as an official working language besides English.
