Physical Education
Our sporting ethos is to encourage girls throughout the school to participate and enjoy sport, and to maintain their interest and develop a healthy lifestyle beyond school. There are ample opportunities for girls to compete at the highest possible level both inside and outside school, with local, regional and national competitions in hockey, netball, cross-country, athletics, tennis, rounders, swimming and riding. Practices take place at lunchtimes and after school as do competitive matches. We are extremely proud of the successes of our different sports teams and individuals at local, county and national level and we celebrate numerous team and individual successes each year with students currently representing the county in athletics, cross-country, riding, hockey, netball, swimming and tennis.
Year 11 follow an options programme with a wider range of activities, some of which take place off the school site. The different sports on offer include:
Athletics | Football | Rugby | Badminton | Golf | Swimming | Basketball | Gymnastics | Tennis |
Cross Country | Hockey | Dance | Judo | Volleyball | Fencing | Netball | Fitness | Rounders |
Pupils benefit from excellent facilities which include a modern Sports Hall, a floodlit Astroturf pitch, 3 netball courts, 11 tennis courts and an outdoor swimming pool.
During Games lessons, students learn about goal-setting and the importance of tactics and strategies to help them in the pursuit of excellence. These skills are essential and critical skills in the workplace, along with sportsmanship and team work. To help develop these skills we encourage all our pupils to participate in team practices. Here they learn to be assertive, take risks and to have fun with their peers.
To support our pupils we have built links with local clubs so they have a clear pathway to develop their specific talents. We have developed strong links with Horsham Hockey Club, Rudgwick Netball Club, Blue Star Harriers (athletics), Slinfold Golf & Country Club, Horsham Hawks Basketball Club & Atlantis Swimming Club. We also provide opportunities for developing leadership skills through the Level 1 SLA award.

GCSE Physical Education This is an interesting and varied course made up of both practical and theoretical elements. There will be a degree of flexibility as to which activities are chosen and assessed. However, a high level of commitment to extra-curricular activities will be required if girls are to maximise their performance opportunities.
If you are considering A Level PE or careers in Sports Science, Physiotherapy, Journalism, Coaching and Teaching of PE, you would benefit from this enjoyable, stimulating, challenging and active course.
