Spanish is spoken by an amazing 400 million people worldwide. It is not only the official language of Spain but also of 15 other countries in the Americas, from Mexico to Peru to Argentina, as well as Caribbean islands such as Puerto Rico and Cuba. Spanish is also the second most spoken language in the United States. It is therefore an economically and politically important language with a rich cultural heritage that spans the continents and the centuries.
